Have you ever had a conversation with someone about their weight loss, and they say something like, “I’m doing X. I can’t eat Y,” or, “I can only eat Z.”
And although that will give you short-term weight loss (because it’s simply a matter of cutting calories), it’s often not sustainable; most people gain back the weight they lost in a FAD diet… and then some.
At Heirloom, one of our 3 core principles is to Focus On Balance. That means that we want to include all food groups. Why? Because the boy functions best when it has all of the macronutrients, not just one or two of them.
Let me explain why ALL macros are important:
Proteins:
Build….everything, not just muscle and connective tissue. Proteins make the enzymes needed for all the chemical reactions going on inside the body, make hormones used to regulate many bodily functions, carry molecules around the body, and form the walls of all the cells. Proteins do a LOT.
Fats:
Dietary fat is needed not only to absorb certain vitamins, but they also help fight inflammation, regulate body temperature, create hormones, and are a long-term source of energy.
Carbohydrates:
This is the body’s preferred source of energy. Sure, the body CAN make energy from proteins and fats, but getting it from carbs is the easiest and quickest/most efficient. Whole-food carbohydrates digest slowly to give the body energy over time. Carbs not only help performance during workouts, but help with recovery, too. They also give the body important things like fiber, water, and vitamins and minerals.
So as you can see, all 3 macronutrients are important to the body. And if better health and overall well-being are your goals, why would you ever want to cut out any of them?
